The Bird Cage
The Birdcage, the movie that brought a political scandal into a Miami drag club to create a raucously hilarious comedy about an unorthodox family is being brought to life at The Playhouse Theatre in Somerset West after a sellout run in 2017 at The Masque Theatre.
Written by Elaine May, “The Birdcage” starring Robin Williams and Nathan Lane, the stage adaptation, directed by the CATA award-winning director, Barrie Howard, promises to live up to the reputation of the film. With onstage drag artists and all the favourite moments captured from the movie, this is definitely an adaptation not to miss.
“The funniest, most outrageous, campest comedy you`ll see this year”
Armand & Albert have built the perfect life for themselves tending to their gaudy Miami “drag” club. But their pastel tranquillity is shaken when Armand`s son announces that he is getting married to the daughter of ultra-conservative Senator Keeley… and they`re all getting together for dinner! Can Armand and Albert transform themselves into Mr. and Mrs. “Family Values” in time? It`ll take the performance of their lives, but they will do anything and everything to pull the chiffon over Keeley`s eyes.
