Meet the Team

Our Theatre is run and managed by a group of committed (unpaid) volunteers – many of whom have been volunteering for decades!  - whose passion and dedication are the lifeblood of The Playhouse Theatre. The support of these remarkable individuals, as well as our loyal patrons, is awe-inspiring, and without them the Theatre would not have become the community staple it is.

FAQs

  • It’s my first visit to the theatre. What can I expect?

We want you to have a truly wonderful experience, and delight in the joy of the performing arts. We’ve compiled a few tips which may make you feel a bit more comfortable. Our dedicated Front of House staff are also available during productions to answer any questions you may have.

  • What time do I need to arrive before a show?

Please arrive at least 15-30 minutes before the performance is set to start. You are more than welcome to come earlier and enjoy a drink at our Encore Bar, or purchase beverages and nibbles at our Snack Bar.

  • What if I’m late and the performance has started?

Once a performance has started, you will not be permitted to enter the auditorium until interval or, depending on the show, there is a suitable break in the performance. The Front of House Management Team will advise accordingly.

  • Can we bring takeaway food or drinks into the auditorium?

Whilst you are welcome to bring snacks and soft drinks with you into the auditorium, we do not allow patrons to take external alcohol, hot food or beverages, strong smelling food or any form of glass into the auditorium, including glass water bottles. Our theatre bars provide a wide range of refreshments that you are able to take into the auditorium and consume during the show.

  • Where can I purchase tickets for shows?

All Playhouse Theatre Production Tickets are available on Webtickets, or can be purchased at the door. If you wish to purchase at the door, we recommend that you contact us to make sure that there are available seats for your preferred date.

Non-Playhouse Theatre Productions (i.e. External Hires) may have their own ticketing system. We recommend that you keep an eye on our Website and Social Media Channels for more details on where to purchase tickets in those cases.

  • I would like to provide feedback on my experience, who can I contact?

We welcome all feedback, reviews, comments and suggestions. Please email us secretary@theplayhouse.org.za and be sure to include the details of the show, including the date and time, that you are providing feedback on.

  • Are your shows suitable for children?

We stage a wide variety of productions throughout the year, and any age recommendations will be communicated per show. We do also understand that each child is different and, as such, parental discretion is advised.

  • I / my child / my partner / my friend may get overwhelmed with the lights, sound or other aspects of the theatre. Should I rather not attend shows?

We understand that some people require a more relaxed experience when visiting the theatre. In an effort to be as inclusive as possible many of our shows – predominantly children’s shows at this stage – offer at least one relaxed performance per run. For more information on our relaxed performances, please email us community@theplayhouse.org.za with any queries you may have.
